Why Learning  Dynamics Reading System when phonics programs abound? Phonics (elemental phonemic awareness and knowledge) is the one component which is common to all “phonics” programs. Learning  Dynamics has a number of major components not a part of other phonics programs.

The simple answer is that it is the one program that works best. The more complex answer lies in the reasons it works so well.

Learning  Dynamics Reading was previously known as Frontline Phonics and just a name like Hooked on Phonics or Zoo Phonics. Learning  Dynamics Reading is a reading system. It has at least five components.

DIRECT INSTRUCTION Learning  Dynamics uses this strategy to insure that all of the necessary elements are presented to the child in an order which optimizes the learning process. It is a highly developed proven lesson plan refined over many years.

MULTISENSORY INSTRUCTION Each individual, each child, tends to learn in different ways Some learn best through visual presentations, some verbal some tactile, some through motion (cursive) some musical, etc. Learning  Dynamics uses all of these. This is the same approach used by the Slingerland Institute in its system to teach dyslexic children to read. It is also highly effective. Because of my personal family experience with dyslexia, I had many conversations with Sue Heinz, President of Slingerland about the effectiveness of multi sensory instruction. The Slingerland method is taught to dyslexics at the Arnmstrong school in Concord.

PROGRESSIVE INCREMENTAL INSTRUCTION Learning  Dynamics uses this strategy to begin blending and reading early It systematically builds on each letter as it is learned. After learning five letters the student reads words. After eight letters they read sentences (the first three short vowel books are only words).

COMPREHENSION Comprehension is an important element in the Learning  Dynamics program Children are tested at the completion of each of the 33 books in our program. Do they understand what they have read?

REWARDS Physical rewards are presented to the child as each letter name and sound is learned. Positive reinforcement. These are NOT game pieces.

ALITERATION Using this technique emphasizes letter sounds in memorable ways. (Morty Mouse Munching Muffins, Money Macaroni)

And it is always fun. Children are never forced to learn. The material is presented to them until they show they are ready to begin. The overriding reason Learning  Dynamics Reading System was chosen was that it had proven itself to be effective. It was the number one home schooling program in the country . And, Learning Dynamics, where it originated had a history of teaching EVERY child in its preschool to read. We were able to verify its effectiveness in a pilot program.
